February -- Enriching Couple Relationships
Featuring an interview with Jay Morrison, LICSW, a retired professor from Boston College's School of Social Work and couple specialist, Paul Crosby explores ways in which couples can maintain or recreate an atmosphere of collaboration and cooperation. "It's about a generosity of spirit that puts both on the same team, a willingness to give and to share and not to be judgemental, as criticism is really destructive," says Jay. Taking time to be togehter and doing something different, like having a date night can help.

April/May Series--The Challenges of Single Parenting & How to Cope
Being a single parent is a difficult job. Much of the time it means caring for children, making difficult decisions and running a household all by oneself." Knowing that you're not alone on this journey is vitally important. We all need people who will cheer us on and steer us in the right direction w hen we feel overwhelmed and alone," said Paul Crosby, Executive Director of the Counseling Center. “Raising children as a single parent is challenging, but it can be very rewarding as well.”
The Single Parenting seminar is one part of the Counseling Center's new educational program which every month spotlights one of the many challenges that people encounter during life. The program begins with an interview and discussion shown on MHTV featuring one or more experts on the topic presented. The show will repeat on MHTV throughout the month, followed by a public seminar at the Counseling Center at the end of each month.
March Series--Understanding & Resolving Depression
Are you beginning to wonder if it will ever stop snowing? Are you feeling down or depressed because winter seems to be going on so long? While everyone occasionally feels blue or sad, these feelings are usually fleeting and pass within a couple of days. However, when someone has a longer-term depression, it interferes with daily life, normal functioning, and causes pain for both the person and those who care about him or her.
The second program in the Marblehead Counseling Center’s series on MHTV, which premiered on March 8, focused on depression and how to deal with it. “Every year, over 10% of the American population suffers from depression and women are twice as likely to fall victim to depression as their male counterparts”, said Paul Crosby, Executive Director of the Counseling Center. “In this program, MCC counselor Heather Fine and I discuss what causes depression, when you should seek treatment and what resources are available.”
MCC therapists discussed the types of events that trigger depression and ways of successfully coping.
Questions about depression or ideas for future topics are very welcome. To submit a question or idea, Contact Us for email, address and phone number.
February Series--Veterans and Families Issues Workshop
Veterans and family members are affected by the common stress reactions that occur after a service member spends time in a war zone. Know what types of reactions to expect. These symptoms often have more to do with deployment to war than with the family. It takes time to readjust.
This workshop on February 28th included a discussion and sharing of the unique challenges which veterans and their families face. Goals for the workshop included beginning to discover the resources and tools necessary for healthy readjustment and reclamation.
